Megan

There’s not much 29 year old Megan Gifford isn’t good at when it comes to strength sports.  Built of a power packed 160cm of lean muscle, Megan competes on the New Zealand Olympic Team, in Olympic Weightlifting under 64kg and partakes in a bit of Crossfit on the side to keep her in condition.  Needless to say her five current New Zealand record’s in weightlifting and bringing home three medals at this years Pacific Games, New Zealand first, means her small frame has a big impact.

Megan is currently on the pathway to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.  She has been competing in both sports of weightlifting and CrossFit at an international level for five years now.  Megan has travelled the world as a weightlifter proudly wearing the silver fern.  However, many may not know that Megan has also competed as an individual and team athlete at the CrossFit Games, putting her in the top 1% of the world’s best CrossFit athletes and fittest on earth.

As a business owner, Megan assists in running their CrossFit Affiliate, CrossFit East Tamaki in Auckland, in conjunction with her husband and business partners.  Here Megan is surrounded by elite athletes and motivated people who form part of her support crew, pushing and helping her to reach her goals.  In return she enjoys coaching CrossFit classes, helping others achieve their own health and fitness goals.

“It took me a while to find a sport.  I was a smoker who lead a less than healthy lifestyle.  CrossFit was the first form of exercise that got me hooked and really bought out my competitive side.  From here the transition to Olympic Lifting was easy.  I’ve been on this journey ever since and because I came from a pretty ordinary background, I feel compelled to share what I’ve achieved with as many people as possible, in the hope to inspire others to try something new and to show them they can achieve anything”.

Megan is coached by her husband Callum Gifford and Papatoetoe Weightlifting Club coach Simon Kent.
